TERM OF REFERENCE (ToR) FOR TRAINING FACILITATOR CHILD PROTECTION, SGBV, CHILD RIGHTS, IDENTIFICATION, AND REFERRAL OF CHILDREN

1.INTRODUCTION

INTERSOM Relief and Development Organization (IRDO) founded in 2004 and since then have continued to support the vulnerable children living in various regions, districts in Somalia. INTERSOM mandated to support women and children to change in their lives and establish a self-reliant and equitable society where everybody attains the right to survival, protection and participation. INTERSOM in collaboration with UN and INGOs, Federal Government and Federal Member of States in Somalia, implemented various integrated child protection and SGVB services to support vulnerable women children who are affected by the recurrent droughts, conflicts and floods in the south central of Somalia.

It is estimated that Somalia third or more of its population are suffering from mental illness, and where much of the population faces psychosocial problems stemming from the effects of acute and protracted conflict, further exacerbated by climatic and other shocks. As a result of the traumatic shocks and distress that women and children experiencing, INTERSOM aimed at improving Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) for conflict affected women and children through training of 40 frontline school educators in Dayniile and Dharkenley districts of Banadir region.

The trained front line school educators, in turn will provide nonspecialized clinical psychological support to children and their families such as peer support, identification of vulnerable children for referrals, basic psychosocial skill (BPS) and psychosocial first aid (PFA).

INTERSOM seeks to contract mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) facilitator to train 40 frontline educators in Dayniile and Dharkenley district. The facilitator will provide participants with practical MHPSS tools to critically assess and support children and families with psychosocial support needs and to facilitate referrals of severe cases to appropriate more specialized mental health services.

2. DELIVERABLE TASKS

  • Design and conduct three day MHPSS training workshop for 40 frontline educators in Dayniile and Dharkenley district in Banadir region.
  • Prepare training material/package for the above mention subject training on MHPSS. The training material/package will be reviewed by INTERSOM technical team to ensure it meets the content required prior to commence the training workshop.
  • Build capacity of school educators with a focus on non-specialized psychosocial interventions to support children and their caregivers who need additional care.
  • Increase practical competencies to provide first-line psychosocial care such as empathic listening, PFA, BPS and Case Management.
  • Provide referral pathway mechanism tools

3. Duration of the training

The training will be going on 3 days and the training will start on 23-Sept-2023

4. Facilitator requirements

Facilitator should have

  • Experience both for the practical and theoretical procedures of training
  • Effective facilitation and communication skills
  • A minimum of degree relevant to the area of task
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in facilitation of Protection, and social work
  • Demonstrated experience and success same trainings
  • Experience working with NGO/INGOs
